When The Adventure of Link was released in 1987, I was immediately intrigued by its radical gameplay shift. Unlike the first The Legend of Zelda, this second installment adopted a side-scrolling view, a choice that, I must admit, threw me off at first.
The story plunges us into a chaotic Hyrule, following the battle between Link and Ganon. Princess Zelda has fallen into a deep sleep due to a mysterious spell. Chosen by destiny, Link must explore vast palaces, defeat six guardians, and place six sacred crystals into ancient stone statues. Only then can he access the final palace and face the creature responsible for the curse.
This entry, with its stronger focus on action and RPG elements, marked a bold turning point in the saga. Even today, it divides players, but it remains a cult classic for fans of the series.
