In 2001, Link returned on the Game Boy Color with two brand-new adventures: Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons. Unlike previous titles developed exclusively by Nintendo, these games were the result of a collaboration with Capcom, under the direction of Yoshiki Okamoto.
These two games, both independent and complementary, offer a unique experience where each adventure can be played separately, yet connects to the other via a password system. This innovative concept allowed players to access the true ending by combining the two quests (learn more).
In Oracle of Ages, Link is transported to the mysterious world of Labrynna. There, he witnesses the kidnapping of Nayru, the Oracle of Time, by the evil witch Veran.
Thanks to the Harp of Ages, Link can travel between the past and the present, solving puzzles and altering the flow of time to progress. This game places a strong emphasis on puzzles and logic, making it more cerebral than its counterpart, Oracle of Seasons.
In Oracle of Seasons, Link awakens in the forest of Holodrum, where he encounters a mysterious troupe of performers. Among them, he meets Din, a young dancer who turns out to be the Oracle of Seasons.
However, their encounter is abruptly interrupted by the arrival of Onox, the Lord of Darkness, who kidnaps Din and destabilizes the climate of Holodrum. Thanks to the Staff of Seasons, Link can manipulate the seasons to access new areas, adding a more action-adventure dimension to the game.
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages & Oracle of Seasons are among the most innovative and underrated games in the series. Their original gameplay, captivating story, and interlinked concept make them essential for fans of Zelda and retro gaming.
