Released in 2006 on GameCube and Wii, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess marked a turning point in the series with a darker and more mature atmosphere, reminiscent of the mysterious mood of Majora’s Mask. Beloved by fans, this installment stands out as one of the most memorable Zelda titles due to its captivating storyline, vast world, and innovative gameplay. To learn more about the behind-the-scenes development, you can check out the \"Iwata Asks\" interview.
In this adventure, Link begins as a simple young farmer from the village of Toal, living peacefully with his friends. But his destiny takes a turn when the kingdom of Hyrule is plunged into darkness by a sinister force. Abducted and imprisoned, he awakens transformed into a wolf!
It is then that he meets Midna, an enigmatic creature endowed with powerful abilities. With her help, Link discovers that he must repel the influence of the King of Shadows, Xanto, and restore the balance between the kingdom of light and that of darkness.
For the first time in a Zelda, Link has two playable forms:
Hyrule has never been as vast and immersive: sprawling plains, dark caverns, mystical temples, and the formidable castle of Hyrule, where the shadow of Ganondorf still looms…
The atmosphere of Twilight Princess is decidedly more mature and darker than that of its predecessors. Its realistic graphic style contrasts with The Wind Waker, delighting fans seeking a more serious Zelda. Legend even has it that Midna was originally conceived to be Princess Zelda before the idea was abandoned!
