The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks (2009) – A Rail-Bound Adventure

Released in 2009 on Nintendo DS, The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks is the spiritual sequel to Phantom Hourglass, set 100 years after its events. While the previous title focused on sea travel, this time Link journeys across a vast kingdom… by train!

A New World and Innovative Gameplay

In this adventure, Link is a train engineer apprentice serving the kingdom of Hyrule. But when Princess Zelda is struck by a curse that separates her body and spirit, she becomes a ghost able to possess the Phantoms, once fearsome guardians.

This Zelda introduces a unique cooperative mechanic:

• Link and Zelda in her ghost form must work together to solve puzzles and advance through dungeons.
• The train replaces the ship from Phantom Hourglass, and players chart routes on a map while managing obstacles and enemies.
• The DS microphone returns, this time used to play the Spirit Flute, a key instrument to awaken the powers of ancient sages.

A Quest Through the Sacred Rails of Hyrule

The story begins as the sacred tracks, which seal the evil Malladus, begin mysteriously disappearing. Link and Zelda set off to find the sacred pillars needed to restore the tracks and prevent the demon’s resurrection.
