Released in 2011 on Nintendo Wii, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is a unique episode in the saga, as it tells the origin story of the Triforce, the Master Sword, and the eternal cycle between Link, Zelda, and Ganon. Its gameplay is based on motion controls, taking full advantage of the Wii Remote Plus and Nintendo Wii to deliver realistic swordplay.
The story begins in Skyloft, a floating island where people travel on the backs of giant birds called Loftwings. Link and Zelda are childhood friends, but during a training flight, Zelda is swept below the clouds by a mysterious storm.
To find her, Link discovers the Goddess Sword, a mystical blade that gradually transforms into the legendary Master Sword. Guided by Fi, the spirit of the sword, he must explore the surface world hidden beneath the clouds.
One of the game’s highlights is Ghirahim, a charismatic and unpredictable enemy. His extravagant design and theatrical personality make him one of the saga’s most memorable antagonists. His goal? To resurrect his demonic master, the terrifying Demise.
Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Zelda, revealed that Skyward Sword was originally conceived as an open-world Zelda before ultimately adopting a more linear structure. This concept would later be fully realized in Breath of the Wild.
